Designing Industrial Machines
The design of the grinding machines was created during a week-long workshop in Rotterdam for the Dutch company Timesaver, which I was invited to, together with other designers from various countries.
The company specialises in the manufacture of a wide range of surface finishing machines, including grinding, polishing and other processes. In small international groups, we were given the task of designing the outer casing of a grinding machine for large format metal sheets.
We focused on bold colors and precise placement of control components to ensure easy accessibility. A key element in our designs was a distinctive transparent wall located on one part of the outer packaging to be used for visual inspection during the grinding process.
The opportunity to consult with the company’s technical team on joint ideas was a great benefit. This interaction not only allowed us to get valuable feedback from experts and take our designs to the next level, but also to network with other designers, gain inspiration from colleagues in the industry and learn about different approaches to work.
